Scarfolk is a town in North West England that did not progress beyond 1979. Instead, the entire decade of the 1970s loops ad infinitum. Here in Scarfolk, pagan rituals blend seamlessly with science; hauntology is a compulsory subject at school, and everyone must be in bed by 8pm because they are perpetually running a slight fever. "Visit Scarfolk today. Our number one priority is keeping rabies at bay."

Christmas can kill. Public Information
Seasonal public information from Scarfolk Council. Even the simple act of giving gifts is fraught with danger.
I found the memory this poster evoked to be particularly bitter sweet. In 1973 a childhood friend of mine accepted a Christmas gift from a distinctly foreign looking gentleman. Though I was not there on Christmas morning when Gary opened the gift, ( I was busy sacrificing turkeys in the back garden, a family tradition,) I later heard how a pot of liquid rabies, concealed within the parcel, pulled him face first into the wrapping. He was never seen again.
The memory is bitter sweet because, firstly, I never thought of that myself (a stroke of genius!) and secondly I never really liked Gary very much.
